The management and staff of the 17th Annual Pocono Blues Festival welcomes you to three days of world class blues. We are very proud of being nationally recognized as one of the top blues festivals in the world. Since 1992, we have showcased more than 325 national and international bands.
Blues fans from 30 states and 10 countries will be making their annual pilgrimage to the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania to witness 20 recording artists performing on 3 stages over 3 days on July 25, 26, and 27, 2008.
The Blues Music Awards (www.blues.org) will be held in Tunica, Mississippi paying tribute to many of the artists that are appearing at this summer's Pocono Blues Festival. Bobby Rush (4 nominations), Lurrie Bell (3 nominations), Nappy Brown (2 nominations), Eric Bibb (1 nomination), Ronnie Baker Brooks (1 nomination), Sharrie Williams (1 nomination), Root Doctor (1 nomination), The Holmes Brothers (1 nomination), and Grammy Award Nominee Geno Delafose.
JIMMY MCCRACKLIN INDUCTED INTO THE BLUES HALL OF FAME BY THE BLUES FOUNDATION
One Of the pioneers of West Coast Blues Jimmy McCracklin was inducted Wednesday May 7th at a ceremony held at The Tunica River Park in Tunica Mississippi,the night before the 29th Annual Blues Music Awards.
McCracklin,who has been recording since 1945,longer than any other living Piano Player .Born August 13th,1921,in Helena Arkansas, McCracklin was influenced by singer-pianist Walter Davis and his records progressed from basic blues piano outings to West Coast Jump into boogie,R&B,Soul,and Funk-tinged Blues.His hits include"The Walk","I Got To Know","Every Night,Every Day",and "Think:in addition he composed[but did not receive credit for]:"Just A Little Bit for Roscoe Gordon,co-wrote"Tramp" with Lowell Fulson,and played piano on BB King's"Rock Me Baby".
BOBBY RUSH & THE HOLMES BROTHERS WIN BLUES MUSIC AWARDS IN TUNICA MISSISSIPPI ON MAY 8TH,2008
Soul Blues Great Bobby Rush won 3 Blues Music Awards[Acoustic Artist,Acoustic Album & Soul Blues Male Artist] and The Holmes Brothers won for Soul Blues Album of the year at the 29th annual Blues Music Awards which was broadcasted live by XM Satellite Radio Channel 74.
The Blues Music Awards annually presents the best in blues by the Memphis based organization Blues Foundation [ www.blues.org ] .The show consisted of 25 award categories and over 25 different performances over a 7 hour period at The Grand Casino Convention Center in Tunica Mississippi on Thursday May 8th.
Pocono Blues Festival Founder and Producer Michael Cloeren was in attendance and presented 5 Awards[Instrumentalist-Bass,Traditional Blues Male Artist,Traditional Blues Album, Song Of The Year & Best New Artist Debut.
This year, our lineup consists of an eclectic mix of the full spectrum of the music, showcasing contemporary and traditional electric and acoustic blues, southern soul, rhythm and blues, gospel, and zydeco music.
We have had so many historic memories throughout the first 16 years. Do you remember Eddie Clearwater entering the festival on a white stallion in 1998, or Shemekia Copeland making her grand entrance to the stage on a Harley Davidson in 2002? Whether this is your first Pocono Blues Festival or your 16th, it is our sincere hope that you enjoy every minute of your experience at the festival and the beautiful Pocono Mountains.
