12.09.09 | By ian

Freedom Park has had 3 builds in the few days we have been open and the current one is by far the best yet.

We are trying to have some more open for this weekend, keep posted on bigboulderPARK.com for more info.

We also just uploaded a gallery of the Jfbb winter party in philly from the 3rd, make sure to see if your in there.

BB Monday

12.07.09 | By jesse

For tonight it will still just be Freedom Park.  We were striving to get some more terrain for tonight but we just could not quite connect the dots.  Over the weekend we had quite a bit of firepower going to Freedom to make sure that we could get open over there.  Certainly we will have more terrain for Tuesday and we will continue to strive to get more open as the week goes on.  Possibly Big Boulder slope and Love Park (both as free ski trails) but I cannot make any promises.

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday and supporting the "Boulder Gives Back" program.  I know it was a little crowded, but it was for a great cause.  We are doing it again tonight, so if you have 10 canned food items, stop by and shred!

Big Boulder Did It Again!

12.07.09 | By heather

For the fourth consecutive year Big Boulder was the first ski area to open in the state. And what an evening it was! Upwards of 2000 guests enjoyed skiing/riding Freedom Park from top to bottom with lift access and 8 features.

For the second consecutive season Boulder gives back. Thousands of canned goods were donated to St. Peter the Fisherman's food pantry a church in Lake Harmony and hundreds of toys were donated for the Toys for Tots Drive to benefit children of the Carbon and Schuylkill Counties.

If you weren't able to come out last night you are in luck because Boulder will be doing it again tonight! All you need to do is bring 10 nonperishable items (please check the expiration dates - we cannot take food that has expired) or a new toy valued at $10 or more and you will receive a free snow pass!

Big Boulder will open today at 3pm with Freedom Park and a lift and if you are unable to support the 2 charieties lift tickets will be $25.

Big Boulder will be OPEN today at 2pm-8pm.  Freedom Park will open with lift service.

We will continue to make snow as temps permit on all trails. We will open more terrain as it becomes available.

If you want to get the first turns in for the season, see you at Big Boulder later....

Do not forget to bring 10 nonperishable food items (expired food will not be accepted) or a toy valued at $10 or more.

Update

12.05.09 | By jesse

Just a quick update on the Opening plans for Big Boulder....

Last night brought in some cooler temperatures and the snowmaking crew was able to get started around 1am last night.  They were able to go until late this morning with moderate success.  We are on standby right now, and hope to get going again by the early evening.

We will make the call early tomorrow morning as to if we will be able to get open for tomorrow, or if it will be Monday.  Right now it is too close to call, but we are doing everything in our power to get something for tomorrow.  I will keep everyone in the loop as to what is happening, an as soon as we know for sure we will let everyone know.

On a positive note we are getting some snow right now and there are 3+ inches are forecasted for the Lake Harmony area!

BB Opening

12.02.09 | By jesse

Hi Everyone-

I just wanted to take a moment and update everyone with our snowmaking/opening plan for Big Boulder.  Currently we are getting quite a bit of rain here in Lake Harmony.  Over the last couple of days we have been making snow and doing some testing on the system.  My original plan was to try and make a few piles with the hope that when we start making snow on Thursday or Friday that we would not be starting from scratch.  Despite the hard work of the BB snowmaking staff, the current weather is putting a damper on what has already been made.  The good news is we still have every intention of getting something open for the weekend. It looks as though there is some significantly cold weather heading our way by Friday.  Saturday looks out of the question for an opening, but Sunday is still very possible.  As many of you know, once we get some cold weather it doesn't take long!

When we do start making snow, it will be across the whole area.  At this point I am not sure of what we will be able to open with, but we will plan on opening new terrain as it is available.  Once Big Boulder opens, we will be open full-time including weekday skiing and riding.

On our opening day (no matter what day it is) we will be having our annual "Boulder Gives Back" event.  For this event, just bring 10 non perishable food items, or a toy for a child valued at 10 dollars to receive a lift ticket for the day.  As everyone knows times are tough for many folks, and with Christmas right around the corner please help us give to people in need!  The food will be donated to the local food bank, and the toys will be given to "Toys for Tots".

Anyway, pray for cold weather, and know that we will continue to be committed to being aggressive as possible to get open asap.

PS  Jack Frost will also be firing up on Friday, and plans to open on the 12th....
